Looking for ideas for Father's Day? But do you know how it all started? Most people think that Father's Day is a relatively new event and credit usually goes to the American Sonora Smart Dodd, who, inspired by hearing a Mother's Day sermon, decided that her father, who had raised her after the death of her mother, deserved equal recognition. However, another tradition dates the celebration back 4000 years to a Babylonian son called Elmesu, who carved a thank you message for his father on a clay card. In the UK we have followed the US tradition of celebrating on the third Sunday of June so this year, 2012, Father's Day falls on June 17th.
