Cath Kidston - for paper people!

Walk into any department or homeware store and you are bound to come across a Cath Kidston product. Everything from bedding to bakeware to iPad cases, and even floor tiles, has appeared on the market printed with one of her trademark polka dot or vintage floral designs.
And our store is no exception, with the Cath Kidston stationery items we sell among our most popular lines.
But how is it that Cath has inspired so many of us to festoon our homes in vintage roses?

Cath was brought up in a country home near Andover, just across the water from us. She has spoken about an idyllic childhood featuring ponies, swimming and a house filled with floral prints and the style we now think of as 'vintage'.
Cath Kidston first set up a vintage stall selling lots of old fabrics and 'pre-loved' goods, but she was soon keen to create her own designs, inspired by her memories of her childhood home. So in 1993 she opened her first store in London's Holland Park. Flying in the face of the recession of recent years, she has expanded her empire to more than 50 outlets in the UK and at least 30 more around the world, worth an estimated £75 million. So what's the appeal, apart from drop-dead gorgeous patterns and fine design, that is?
Cath's style evokes a bygone era, when women had the time to be homemakers, baking cakes in elegant tea dresses, serving homemade lemonade on the lawn of a cottage with roses round the door, her well behaved children playing contentedly around her. Pie-in-the-sky of course for most hard-pressed forties mothers, but for those of us juggling a job to pay the mortgage with being a 'yummy mummy', these nostalgic imaginings allow us to inhabit a simpler, prettier world, where life comes in pink and everything matches!

Interestingly, it's not just older women who favour Cath Kidston's designs. Young girls and even teens are styling everything from their festival wellies to iPhone cases in her trademark florals, and sewing and baking are back in vogue for working girls, not their grans.

A recent addition to our range of Cath Kidston stationery is this lovely little wallet, which expands into 3 pockets, each containing tiny 10 notecards with pink and white envelopes.
Aspiring interior designers need look no further than her Home Ideas Journal, packed full of advice on styling and planning every room in the house, complete with pockets for storing clippings and samples and space for noting room measurements, tradesmen contacts and project notes. A great house-warming gift!
Just arrived! Our latest addition to the range is our Cath Kidston Recipe Organiser, with loads of pages to write your to-die-for recipes and pockets for storing magazine cuttings or perhaps your ideas for some designer cupcakes!
