Quirky Quote Journals

We do like our products to be a bit quirky and original and these super leather pocket journals are just that!

Each one is bound in a luxuriously soft leather, in a choice of fab colours and boldly silver foiled with a familiar quotation. Just 9cm wide by 12cm high, they are slim and compact and fit easily into a handbag or briefcase and with 120 plain white pages they are super versatile. Use them for journaling, notes, sketches, lyrics - or whenever inspiration strikes!

They make great gifts and the brilliant thing is that you can choose one to perfectly suit an individual you have in mind. But how many of the quotations do you recognise - and who said them?

I was thinking today about whom I would give each one to...

Behind every successful man there's a surprised woman
This one was easy for me! I can think of several of my friends (no names, though!) with high-powered husbands and partners who are actually pretty much dependent on the women in their lives for most of the domestic stuff, childcare, arranging their social life etc. And I know one or two guys whose Mums would defintitely share the sentiment! This quotation is attributed to Maryon Pearson, wife of the former Canadian Prime Minister, a lady known for her sharp wit and never afraid to speak her mind.
Don't judge a book by its cover
Well, we all do it don't we? Confession time, my own prejudice is judging people I think look "chavvy" and assuming they must be dumb because of the way they dress! But are blondes dizzy? Are fat folk jolly? We've all had the "SuBo" moment and regretted it! The first recorded use of the phrase is usually given as the 1946 murder mystery novel by Edwin Rolfe and Lester Fuller, "Murder In The Glass Room" in the form of "You can never tell a book by its cover". I think this journal would go to someone I know who is something of a fashionista herself, but may be a bit quick to jump to conclusions about those of us who are a bit less stylish!
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left
This quotation from Groucho Marx is rather apt for a lot of us right now! This journal would suit quite a few people I know who are 'financially challenged' but happy, living a laid back life on our little corner of the Isle of Wight, far away from the rat race, who love the sea, the relaxed lifestyle and the peace of our beautiful countryside. But I would have to offer it to Seasick Steve because he has made such a cool song out of it!

I'm so great I'm jealous of myself
Well actually, I can't find out who first came up with this little saying but I'm thinking it could have been Samantha Brick, who famously claimed that there are downsides to being as pretty as she is! So Samantha, this one's for you!

You're only young once, but you can be immature forever
I love this one! The idea of growing old disgracefully really appeals to me, much like the character in Jenny Joseph's Warning, who vows to wear purple and "spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves". The quotation is from Germaine Greer, best known for her views on women's liberation, but I like to think of this as "middle age liberation". A great gift idea for anyone with one of the larger 'milestone' birthdays coming up, to fill with plans and outrageous ideas for the 'bucket list'!
It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world
How often does this thought spring to mind! Juggling work, home, finances, family, friends and the universe in general can be somewhat overwhelming! I am a great one for writing lists in attempt to bring order into chaos and this journal is the one I should get myself to record my attempts to structure my life and become one of those women who has everything labelled, folded, dusted and in alphabetical order. But the quotation comes from the title of the 1963 epic comedy film about a crazy journey full of disasters and mayhem, and something tells me this is rather more my style!
The road to success is always under contruction
Finally, an inspirational quote from American actress Lily Tomlin, a timely reminder to persevere in times of trouble when the 'road to success' is feeling more like 'the highway to nowhere'! This journal is tailor made for turning hopes and dreams into reality. Great for budding entrepreneurs and people with big ideas to set goals for where they want to be and how to get there, this one's for my talented friend who is celebrating her graduation this month and has big plans for the future.

Everyone can use a stylish little notebook like this and one of them is bound to suit someone on your Christmas list. Click here to browse through them all on our website.
